[JoongAng Daily] The house is alive! The birth of a house with artificial intelligence
Han Eunhwa's Space exploration life
A white house has recently arrived in a neighborhood where houses are gathered along the stem of Bukhansan in Gugi-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is like a white square box with no cracks. At first glance, this house, which has no expression, is called a ’living house’ in the neighborhood. “If the child goes to the house, I am not going to come home,” he said.
The ‘IM House’ Architect tesoc Hah’s living room and living rap Automatically moving, home learning machine “The house changes according to the landlord like a deacon”
He is also a strange thing in this house. It moves automatically once. They learn by themselves and respond to the condition of the landlord.
Let’s assume the User’s return home. When the owner activates the ‘work mode’ in the neighborhood entrance, the closed house automatically opens. The door does not open, but the elevation moves. The face of the house, which looked like a white wall, was actually composed of 38 “Kinetic Facades”. As each kinetic facade moves, the appearance of the house changes completely.
Once inside the house, a ceiling light is turned on and off one by one according to the User’s movements. It is like a spotlight lighting following the main actor on stage. The floor also moves. When it is lowered and becomes a stairway, it floats up and becomes a chair. If you switch to meditation mode, the color of your home lighting changes and the music changes. Changeable. The name is ‘IM House’.
The architect who designed the house is Mr. tesoc Hah, the architect of the scale. The ‘IM House’, which has a land area of 262 square meters and a floor area of 204 square meters, is a living space where his family lives together and is an experimental space called ’living lab’. He said, “I do not fit into the house, but the house is my house.” “It is a completely new concept and a first attempt,” “a changing house.”
It would also mean that ‘IM House’ advanced the key technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution with home. Then he overturned stereotypes. The house can not be changed. It was the role of light and shadow that made the house look different. Kim Jung-yup (1922-1988), the first-generation Korean architect who designed the French Embassy in Korea, liked the expression “architecture is a symphony of light and shadow.”
‘IM House’ changes itself. IoT is connected to home devices, and sensors attached inside and outside the house collect big data and analyze them using artificial intelligence. Representative Ha said, “There are three ways to operate.”
Once you have a remote control with your smartphone. It is through the “digital twin” app developed by Ha. When you turn on the app, a 3D model appears on the screen that looks exactly like ‘IM House’. When you activate a house in the app, it is reflected in the actual house. He said, “There are a lot of moving devicesh in the house, such as lighting, walls and floors, so we have created seven modes that combine them.” “If you press the mode such as meditation, party, work or cinema, the house will change accordingly.”
The second is motion control. When he took his hand in the house to the sky, the sensor sensed it and turned on the table top light. The floor moved according to the action of raising and lowering the arm. The final step is to analyze the pattern of behavior of the landlord and perform machine learning.
“It’s a step where the landlord collects big data and collects big data to provide customized services, and the house is changing itself.” Now it is the stage of collecting data, and if it develops further, You can get the effect of being served to a deacon who knows you for ten years, “he said.
The architect invested eight years to build this house. Prior to the Venice Biennale construction in Venice Italy in 2010, he was the representative of Korea. He presented the , which is made up of citizen participation. When people entered their lifestyle in their smartphone app, they could see the custom house designed on the screen through the algorithm.
It was an attempt to expand the work of architects who provide one-to-one services to the client to one-to-many. Or it could be a provocation that the work of an architect can be replaced by a computer program.
Question: How was the reaction? “At that time, there was no response from the architecture community at all. ‘It was a strange thing.’ Instead, the reaction of the art world was enormous. It’s here as an interactive (interactive) media art. Since then, I have been invited every time there is a media art exhibition in Korea such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Seoul Museum of Art. "
QUESTION: The architect became a media artist at the end of the day. “It is. haha. I wanted to realize in architecture, in the city, but I could not get out of the museum. It was very frustrating. I say architecture, but it is not accepted as architecture. However, based on the experience, I was able to build ‘IM House’. Recently, a local government official visited the office. He was also appointed as general architect of ‘Future City’ in Seocho-gu Office in Incheon. It seems that the era of convergence of architecture and IT has come in earnest. "
Question: It seems to be different from general house building. How was it made? “I went through three stages. The construction company made a basic space like a general house. The second was to attach moving elements such as walls and floors. Direct construction. The third was to connect multiple devices to the Internet. I put the software on it, put in the algorithm, and customized it further. When I saw the completed house where the first general construction work was completed, I was surprised that it was such a house.”
Question: The construction cost seems to be high. “Up to the first stage, it is similar to the cost of building a house in general. From the second stage, the research and development costs were recycled. ‘IM House’ has a total of 149 devices that can be controlled in and out, and about 20 sensors are installed. But you do not have to install all this. In general, it is impossible to put a lot of sensors on the house. Instead, the software should be smarter.”
Question: Home is also an era in which machine learning evolves. What is the role of the architect? “When glass and iron were first introduced in the early 20th century, architects used it to think about what architecture to build. And the era of skyscrapers was opened. New media such as sensors and algorithms now become new building materials. It is time to think about what architecture to make with this. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is expanding into various fields, but it still lacks the question of how to apply it to space. Electronics companies are building houses for the future. Architect’s imagination is needed. "
Question: What is the final version of IM House? “You really are acting on your own. Like the butler in the movie Batman, the house continues to evolve as a house that changes and proposes space according to the condition and weather of the landlord. In addition, it can be expanded to smart architecture as well as general house. We can think about living office, hotel, commercial space. I hope that the discussion on future architecture will become more active with the opportunity of ‘IM House’.”
